Terms
Terms of service
The agreement between you and TextStrangers, in plain language.
Last updated 30 September 2026
These terms apply when you use this TextStrangers website (the “Service”), operated by the operator of this TextStrangers website. By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use TextStrangers.
1. Who can use TextStrangers
You must be at least 18 years old, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live. You must answer the age check honestly. We may restrict access if we believe you are under 18.
2. What TextStrangers is
TextStrangers randomly connects you with other people for text conversations, and offers optional public topic rooms. You don't know who you'll be matched with, and we don't verify anyone's identity. Other users' messages are their own responsibility, not ours.
3. Your conduct
You agree to follow the community rules. In particular, you won't:
- harass, threaten, bully or send hate speech to anyone;
- share or request sexual content involving anyone under 18, under any circumstances;
- send sexual content to people who haven't agreed to it;
- spam, advertise, scam, phish or ask people for money;
- share other people's personal information;
- impersonate others or misrepresent your age;
- use bots, scripts or automation, or try to get around rate limits, filters, blocks or bans;
- try to access conversations you're not part of, or disrupt or attack the Service;
- use TextStrangers for anything illegal.
If you create an optional account, these rules also apply to your display name and profile picture: no sexual, hateful or violent images, no one else's photo or name, and no contact details. You're responsible for keeping your password secret. Moderators may reset a profile that breaks these rules.
4. Moderation and enforcement
We use automated filters and user reports to keep TextStrangers safe, and moderators review reports. We may block messages, end conversations, remove public room messages, and suspend or ban sessions or networks that break these terms, with or without notice. We may report illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, to the authorities.
We do not monitor private conversations in real time and can't guarantee that every harmful message will be caught. Use the block and report tools whenever something feels wrong.
5. Your content
You're responsible for what you write. You keep any rights you have in it. You give us permission to process and transmit your messages as needed to run the Service — including checking them with our filter, delivering them, and storing excerpts when a conversation is reported, as described in the privacy policy.
6. Availability
We provide TextStrangers “as is” and “as available”. We may change, pause or discontinue features at any time. We don't promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that you'll always find someone to talk to.
7. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for the conduct of other users. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using TextStrangers at any time, clear its data from your browser in Settings, and delete your account, if you have one, on the Account page. We may suspend or end your access, including your account, if you break these terms.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If the changes are significant we'll make that clear on the site. Continuing to use TextStrangers after changes means you accept them.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator is established, without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live.
