About
The internet used to be full of strangers.
Somewhere along the way, it became a place where you only talk to people you already know. TextStrangers is a small attempt to bring back the surprise of a conversation with someone new.
Random chat sites were one of the web's great accidental inventions: press a button, meet a person, talk about anything. They were also often chaotic, unsafe and a little grim. TextStrangers keeps the simple part — one click and you're talking — and rebuilds the rest with care.
Tell us what you're into and we'll try to find someone who shares it. Stuck for words? Grab a conversation starter. Want to skip the small talk? Challenge your match to a game of Tic-Tac-Toe or Two Truths and a Lie. When you're done, press Next. Nothing follows you around.
Words only
No video, no voice, no webcam. Text keeps things low-pressure, and lets personality do the talking.
Private by default
No accounts or profiles. Conversations disappear when they end, unless you choose to keep them on your own device.
Honest numbers
The online count is real. We never show fake users, fake messages or simulated matches to make the place feel busy.
Safety you can see
Block and report are one tap away, and we explain exactly how moderation works — including what it can't do.
How it works under the hood
TextStrangers runs on a persistent WebSocket server. Matching, message delivery, games and moderation checks all happen on the server, so the other person can't fake a game move, read a conversation they're not in, or dodge a block. Your browser only ever knows an opaque chat ID — never the other person's identity.
We store as little as possible. The privacy policy lists every piece of data, how long it lives and why.
